Standing alongside presumptive 2024 GOP nominee Donald Trump, Home Speaker Mike Johnson introduced Friday afternoon that Home Republicans are introducing laws that may require voters to show their U.S. citizenship earlier than casting their ballots.

“We’re about to introduce laws that can require each one who registers to vote in a federal election to first show they’re a citizen. He has to show it. It will likely be a brand new piece of federal regulation and an important one.”

“Our regulation will introduce new safeguards, by the way placing us on par with just about each different democracy around the globe that additionally prohibits absentee voting.”

“And that's a essential factor for us to do at a really essential time.”

Johnson emphasised that the proposed laws would power states to take away non-citizens from the voter rolls.

Addressing the state of affairs on the southern border, Johnson questioned why Democrats would tolerate the chaos, suggesting it was “as a result of they need to flip these individuals into voters.”
