The Arizona Home voted 32-28 to repeal the 1864 abortion ban.
Three Republicans, Reps. Matt Gress, Justin Wilmeth and Tim Dunn, joined 29 Democrats in pushing for progress.
The Arizona Senate will now vote on whether or not to question Gov. Katie Hobbs (D).
If the repeal goes forward, the earlier state legislation banning abortions after 15 weeks of being pregnant will go into impact.
It was the third try by the Home to repeal the legislation.
State Rep. Ben Toma (R), speaker of the carefully divided Home, opposed the repeal.
“The very last thing we should always do as we speak is to hurry by the legislative course of a invoice that repeals a legislation that was handed and reconfirmed by the legislature,” Toma mentioned after the failed first vote.
