    Former Archbishop of Canterbury resigns as priest after BBC secures investigation

    The previous Archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey, has resigned as a priest after a BBC investigation claimed he didn’t correctly deal with a intercourse abuse case.

    Lord Carey was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1991 to 2002, throughout which era the previous rector of Canvey Island, David Tudor, was allowed to return to ministry regardless of being banned by the Church of England from being alone with youngsters.

    His return adopted a five-year suspension for allegations of sexually assaulting teenage ladies.

    He was banned from the ministry for all times in October after a tribunal upheld two complaints of inappropriate conduct by teenage ladies within the Nineteen Eighties. Tudor pleaded responsible to sexual abuse.

    The BBC reported that whereas he was archbishop, Carey allowed Tudor to return to ministry below supervision and that minutes of the assembly stated he “defended” the disgraced priest. He additional acknowledged that Carey had agreed to take away Tudor's title from the official church listing of clergy who had been disciplined.

    In his resignation letter, Carey wrote that he needed to surrender his depart to workplace (PTO).

    “I’m now 90 and have been in lively ministry since 1962 once I was ordained a deacon after which a priest in 1963,” he stated.

    “It was an honor to serve within the dioceses of London, Southwell, Durham, Bristol, Bathtub and Wells, Canterbury and at last Oxford.”

    Carey's resolution to relinquish his PTO comes amid strain on the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, to resign over his dealing with of the Tudor case when he was Bishop of Cheltenham.

    Cottrell has denied claims of inaction within the Tudor case and is resisting calls to stop.

    “After I joined the Diocese of Chelmsford in 2010, I labored carefully with its very skilled safety staff to make sure the chance was managed,” he stated.

    “However David Tudor couldn’t be faraway from workplace till additional complaints have been made, which occurred when the sufferer bravely spoke to the police.
