Proper after I grew to become a Christian as a highschool rugby participant, I obtained discipled by a youth ministry chief named Tom Sayer. Tom performed second-string defensive finish on the College of California at Berkeley and taught me how you can develop bodily by lifting weights. He additionally taught me how you can develop spiritually by finding out the Bible.
One night, as we met for our weekly Bible examine, I shared how I used to be fighting a selected temptation. Tom requested me if I had ever memorized Bible verses, and he then pointed me to 2 passages that handled my explicit temptation.
In Psalm 119:11 (above), we be taught that the author hid God’s Phrase in his coronary heart in order that he may not sin in opposition to God. Hiding God’s Phrase in our coronary heart might help us overcome temptation. So Tom inspired me to cover God’s Phrase in my coronary heart by memorizing Bible verses. I memorized these two verses he shared with me that day, and I nonetheless know them from reminiscence right now.
Memorizing the Bible, whether or not a verse or a whole chapter, is a religious self-discipline that helps us develop spiritually. Matthew 5, John 3, Romans 8 and 2 Corinthians 5 are nice locations to start out. Memorize choose Proverbs or Psalms like Psalm 23, 51 or 121. Learn and reread verses, memorize them, and in so doing you’ll cover God’s Phrase in your coronary heart. When His Phrase is planted in your coronary heart and you might be residing in accordance with what it says, you’ll be able to stroll within the fullness of what He has for you.
