    HBCU Jarvis Christian adds men's and women's wrestling

    Jarvis Christian College Athletic Director Bobby Ladner introduced the addition of the lads's and ladies's program as a part of the growth of JCU's athletic division.

    The wrestling program is among the first established at an HBCU establishment. JCU can also be solely the fifth school in Texas so as to add the game. JCU joins fellow NAIA members Wayland Baptist College and Texas Wesleyan College in competing at state. Schreiner College and Texas Girl's College compete on the NCAA stage.

    JCU will be a part of the Sooner Athletic Convention for wrestling, because the Pink River Athletic Convention doesn’t sponsor the game. JCU will be a part of Oklahoma Metropolis College, Texas Wesleyan, Wayland Baptist, Central Christian School and Arkansas Baptist School in competitors on the lads's aspect. On the ladies's aspect, JCU will be a part of Texas Wesleyan, Wayland Baptist, Oklahoma Metropolis, Central Christian, Lyon School and Missouri Baptist College.

    As one of many few HBCU establishments with a wrestling program, Ladner believes JCU has a possibility to develop the game.

    “We’re excited to be one of many first HBCUs so as to add a wrestling program,” Ladner stated. “What we're doing right here at Jarvis can serve for example for different HBCU athletic departments throughout the nation.
