Lyle's Golden Syrup is renamed to take away the reference to the Outdated Testomony story.
The normal tin packaging of the favored bakery product exhibits a picture of a useless lion surrounded by a swarm of bees in reference to Judges 14 and the story of Samson and the lion.
Within the story, Samson kills a lion together with his naked palms and later sees bees swarming round him and making honey. He takes some honey and eats it.
The design of the cans goes again practically 150 years to founder Abram Lyle, who was a religious Christian.
Accompanying the picture of the lion and the bees was a part of a puzzle he wrote containing the phrases, “From the robust got here sweetness.”
The cans had been redesigned to indicate solely the lion's head and take away the road from Lyle's puzzle. It’s being applied from this month.
“Our recent, up to date design brings Lyle's into the trendy age, interesting to the on a regular basis British family whereas feeling nostalgic and authentically Lyle's,” stated the corporate's model director James Whiteley.
Helen Edwards, who teaches on the London Enterprise College, informed the BBC that the revised design can be much less “exclusionary”.
“A narrative about it coming from a spiritual religion might put a model in an exclusionary house, particularly if it had been to go viral on X or TikTok,” she stated.
