    San Francisco Appoints Noncitizen to Board of Elections

    The San Francisco Board of Elections has named a Chinese language immigrant who got here to america from Hong Kong in 2019 as its latest board member.

    Kelly Wong, who can’t legally vote within the U.S., would be the seventh member of the Metropolis Council to supervise election coverage for the San Francisco Division of Elections.

    Wong posted on social media that she hopes “everybody, no matter immigration standing, can have a seat on the desk in shaping the long run” of the town.

    “I’m very impressed along with her dedication to enfranchising individuals who hardly ever vote, educating folks concerning the voting course of and bringing in non-citizens and giving them the instruments they should turn into residents,” stated Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin.

    Wong says he’ll search to extend engagement between the town's non-English-speaking communities and their immigrants.

    “Despite the fact that I'm fluent in English,” Wong advised KQED, “I'm nonetheless having hassle navigating the brand new system, not to mention collaborating in political dialog and actions.”
