Denver's Democratic mayor is accusing Republicans and former President Donald Trump of reducing $5 million from public companies utilized by his residents to pay to help unlawful immigration.
Mayor Mike Johnston introduced final week that hours at recreation facilities can be decreased and renewals of private automobile registrations on the DMV will finish to avoid wasting funds.
The cuts come after the mayor's resolution final month to redirect $25 million from town price range to the unlawful immigration disaster.
Johnston says the disaster will price town about $180 million in 2024.
“The choice by congressional Republicans this week to purposefully kill a historic bipartisan border settlement can have a devastating affect in Denver,” Johnston stated.
“I’m extremely happy with how the members of town workforce have improved over the previous 12 months, however it’s clear that the federal authorities won’t help our metropolis,” he continued.
Practically 40,000 migrants, largely from Venezuela, have arrived in Denver up to now 12 months, with greater than 3,500 dwelling in city-funded lodge rooms.
