Forward of subsequent month's heavyweight title struggle, boxing celebrity Tyson Fury has stated he and his upcoming opponent are two of the strongest Christians within the sport and that whoever wins is as a result of God destined them to win.
Fury will face Ukraine's Oleksandr Usyk on February 17 in Saudi Arabia, the winner of which can be declared the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
Fury, 35, is the World Boxing Council champion, whereas Usyk, 37, holds the World Boxing Affiliation, Worldwide Boxing Federation and World Boxing Group titles. All 4 titles are due subsequent month.
In a pre-fight interview with boxing reporter Steve Bunce posted on YouTube final week, Fury spoke about his religion and that of his opponent.
“We’re the 2 largest Christians in boxing,” Fury stated. “I can practice all I need with out fail, however whoever God desires to win this struggle will win. It doesn't matter when you're from a ditch or a kingdom from wherever.”
“Hear, being a champion is nice. However to see somebody who can be a world champion and has loads of religion in God is unbelievable. Lovely.”
Fury has not shied away from sharing his religion in God through the years. After retaining his heavyweight boxing title in 2021 with an Eleventh-round knockout, Fury credited God for “elevating” him to his ft through the fourth spherical of his struggle towards fighter Deontay Wilder.
After the struggle, Wilder went to the locker room and was taken to the hospital as a precaution, whereas Fury stayed again to offer a post-fight interview.
“I want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Within the title of Jesus I’ve gained this struggle once more tonight,” Fury stated. “I give him glory, he offers me victory.”
After the 2021 bout, Fury could possibly be seen carrying a hat with the phrases “Jesus: El Rey Viene”, a Spanish phrase which means “Jesus: The King is Coming”.
Fury was acknowledged because the undefeated champion after defeating Wilder in 2019, which earned him the World Boxing Council heavyweight belt.
“Deontay Wilder is a high fighter. He gave me a tough time. I've all the time stated I'm one of the best on the earth and he's the second finest,” Fury stated in his 2021 interview.
