Evangelicals in France have conveyed their issues in regards to the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics to the French authorities.

Organizers had been accused of mocking Christianity due to a scene with drag queens and a haloed lesbian DJ, which many Christians interpreted as a illustration of Leonardo da Vinci's Final Supper.

Responding to the backlash, Paris Olympics spokeswoman Anne Descamps stated: “We're in fact actually sorry if individuals had been offended in any manner,” whereas creative director Thomas Jolly stated he wished to “throw an enormous pagan occasion related to the gods of Olympus.”

“You’ll by no means discover in my work a want to ridicule or denigrate anybody,” he stated.

“I wished a ceremony that may convey individuals collectively, that may reconcile, but in addition a ceremony that may affirm our republican values of liberty, equality and fraternity.”

Even the apology brought about anger amongst Christians, as some noticed it as insincere.

CNEF was among the many critics of Friday's ceremony. It requested why Christianity was apparently focused if brotherhood and inclusion had been the objective. It stated the scene brought about “unrest” and “deeply damage” many Christians, though it stated it accepted the organizers' apology.

CNEF President Erwan Cloarec expressed concern over the controversial scene throughout a gathering this week with the Inside Minister's workplace.

He requested that the French authorities “assure that everybody, whether or not non secular or not, might be revered of their basic beliefs in a republic that wishes to unite”.

CNEF encourages Christians to make use of the controversy as a possibility to witness to the Christian religion and interact in tradition.

“For months … we dreamed that these video games could be a possibility for Christians to share, by phrase and deed, the gospel that animates them,” Cloarec stated.

“Allow us to have a look at the state of affairs that may come up, an actual alternative to offer witness to our religion, as a result of the particular person of Christ has simply been positioned on the middle of those video games.

“Allow us to take heed to the cry of the guts and the necessity for reconciliation of our contemporaries, their seek for identification and belonging.

“They lament in a pluralistic society; let's present them how you can name out louder to the one who invitations all of them to his desk and provides true reconciliation, true identification and belonging.

“Throughout these video games and past, allow us to share with all nations the excellent news we’ve acquired.”
