    COVID Relief Funds Went to Illegal Immigrants: Report

    Madison, Wisconsin has offered funding for COVID-19 aid to undocumented immigrants, in response to a report by the Institute for Authorities Reform's (IRG) Middle for Investigative Oversight.

    The town gave $700,000 in taxpayer {dollars} to nonprofit teams that “present providers to undocumented immigrants, despite the fact that these immigrants are largely ineligible to in any other case obtain direct federal or state help,” the IRG report mentioned.

    “It’s unclear how grants to native nonprofits for 'Companies for Undocumented Residents' meet the intent of this system practically 5 years after the pandemic,” the IRG added.

    IRG Basic Counsel and Director of Oversight Jake Curtis mentioned in an announcement: “It’s troubling to study that the Metropolis of Madison is diverting taxpayer {dollars} supposed to assist Wisconsinites to unlawful immigrants. Our workforce on the Middle for Investigative Oversight is dedicated to working with our state and federal companions to convey solutions to gentle for our state's hard-working taxpayers.”

    The revelations prompted state Sen. Duey Stroebel (R) to put in writing a letter demanding solutions concerning the misappropriation of funds.
