The NFL's deadline to franchise tag or switch a participant has come and gone, and the Miami Dolphins opted to not use theirs on defensive lineman Christian Wilkins.
Now, Wilkins, who had a career-high 9 sacks in 2023, will hit the free agent market, the place he’ll seemingly obtain an enormous contract that may pay him roughly $20 million a 12 months.
One participant who was upset with Miami's determination was former Dolphins linebacker Kyle Van Noy when he shared his ideas on social media.
It doesn't shock me, however he's somebody who epitomizes being a dolphin… Captain, he's getting higher yearly and doing the proper factor by way of being a real skilled! Hopefully a staff across the league sees this and begs him to affix their staff! This dude loves soccer… https://t.co/R8u80uHzvl

Whereas many Dolphins followers on social media are calling Van Noy's response “bitter grapes” for a way his tenure in Miami ended, he's not unsuitable.
Wilkins has finished all the pieces requested of him over the previous 5 seasons and even improved his pass-rushing in 2023, which was the one factor critics pointed to as a possible weak spot in his recreation.
If the line of defense doesn't return in 2024, the Dolphins will probably be a worse staff, not solely due to the lack of his manufacturing, but additionally due to the lack of his management and self-discipline.
